Middleware is, simply put, a category of software that connect components and/or applications often in a networked environment. Middleware usually hides the complexity of the surrounding infrastructure by providing a high-level abstraction i.e. an application can send a message in a similar way to a local recipient and a system of another brand at the other side of the world.
There is a multitude of quality software hidden on the internet, there is also a multitude of directories which aim to help you to find it. This directory attempts to differentiate itself by concentrating on middleware and by providing original content edited by a single entity.
The approach is quite technical, we try to help software developers and ITC professionals find software easier and also give them aids for evaluating open source middleware.
It is a commercial endeavor by a small Finnish software company called Sovibox Oy. The main commercial motivation is currently that it is an example of the type of multiclient survey we are currently marketing but the intention is to maintain it independently of the survey and as a public free service.
